Giving Your Rented Home a Touch of Italian Style
Dec. 1, 2021
Around 20% of Italians let out rooms in the home that they live in, and for many expats, renting is a good option before deciding which area to live in and committing to buying a property. If you are renting a house, it is usually required that you don’t make any cosmetic changes to the property without the expressed permission of the landlord. Even though you may not be repainting the house that you’re renting, it doesn't mean that you can’t give your new home a touch of Italian style. With the right accessories, you can really make your rented house feel like a beautiful, Mediterranean home.
Curtains and blinds
The right window dressings can really frame the view you have from your windows, as well as bringing a burst of color into your living area. Before you put up any curtains and blinds however, cleaning your windows and frames will make them

sparkle. Using a professional window cleaning service is always good, especially if your Italian home has more than two floors, or you are in a high apartment block. When you are choosing curtains, take inspiration from the traditional Italian patterns, combining floral elements and ornamental design. These will never go out of fashion, and will complement plain-colored walls perfectly.
Accessories your living room
Using throws and rugs in your rental home can give it a real feeling of comfort and luxury. In the cooler winter months, go for soft, tactile fabrics, such as faux fur or velvet, in neutral colors like warm grey and chestnut brown. In the summer months, take inspiration from some of the famous Italian fashion designers like Versace, Gucci and Valentino, and go to town with big prints, geometric designs and bold color choices.
Add some artwork
You don’t have to hammer nails into the walls to be able to hang artwork up, you can use alternative methods so that you can still put up paintings and make a statement. Command Strips are a good option for smaller pictures, and these won’t damage paintwork. You could also use a specialist picture hanger that will attach to any molding on the walls. Another option is to make the most of any mantel pieces and fireplace surrounds that are in your home. You could even put up an easel to display a painting - it will look stylish and elegant but very practical, and you can change the art whenever you feel like it.
There are plenty of ways you can add style to your rental home without making cosmetic changes. Take inspiration from Italian artists and designers and celebrate the culture of your new home country in your living space.
